The Galaxy S Plus i9001 is a new Android Smart Phone from Samsung Galaxy Series. It has 1.4GHz powerful Processor and 512MB of RAM. Looking at the huge success of the Samsung Galaxy, the company, decided to make their popular phone even better by launching the Galaxy S Plus. The Samsung Galaxy S I9001 Plus is not a new phone, but simply an alternative to the existing Galaxy S, which has Hummingbird chipset, running at 1GHz and swapped it for a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor.
The Samsung Galaxy S Plus is large because of its big screen, but on the other hand it is very light for a device of this size, largely due to the all-plastic casing.
User Interface
The Samsung Galaxy S Plus features Super AMOLED 4 inch screen, featuring the TouchWiz UI. It comes with Google’s Android Gingerbread 2.3. It has 4.0 inch capacitive touch screen with a good 480 x 800 pixel resolution. The powerful 1.4 GHz processor ensures seamless and smooth operation of rich applications with no lag time. The width is only 9.9mm thick which makes it one of the thinnest Android smart phones in the market.
Camera and Image Quality
The Samsung Galaxy S possesses a 5 mega pixel camera. The camera is quick to focus and has touch focus feature, which works exceptionally well. Performance is fairly well in good light but in low light areas, the images showed fair amount of noise due to the absence of flash. However, the auto focus feature of the camera is an added feature. Colours came out quite well but details are of just average quality. The image quality seemed just average even for a 5MP camera phone standard.
Calling and Contacts
The Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 has a very easy contact saving option. All the calls and messages get stored in the saved contacts automatically. That means if you are searching for missed calls or messages from a particular person that is already in the saved contact list, than the missed calls or message will be saved their automatically and the user don’t have to search for the missed calls or messages or any other alerts. There are also options to keep these messages secret from others. This is done through password protect. The Call Logs, Messages etc can be easily protected from others to have an easy view and can be misused by anybody.
Web accessibility
The Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 has an excellent Web browser. HSPA up to 14.4 Mbps means minimal waiting for files to download. Buffering and edging are very less with such high speeds. But Flash won’t be fully supported until the Android 2.2 update is applied to its feature. The built in browser provides full web pages for the small size remarkably well and this can further improve the view for mobile screen by checking the option for mobile view.

The Galaxy S Plus i9001 has very good storage capacity. It comes with a heavy 16GB internal memory and it has 512MB of RAM. Still, the 16GB on-board memory is not fully for data storage. 2GB is reserved for installing apps while the rest 14GB can be used for storing data and any other requirements. Now if you feel this does not satisfy you, then the phone supports micro SD cards up to 32GB.

When it comes to connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 is a very versatile device as it has various modes of connectivity. The user can seamlessly be connected to internet through 3G and Wi-Fi. Not only that, in areas where 3G or Wi-Fi or any of the two services are not available then the user can connect it through EDGE and GPRS. The user also has the freedom to exchange data through Bluetooth. The Bluetooth works fast with v3.0 (A2DP/AVRCP) and for wired connection, this option of USB 2.0 is also added.

As a gaming prospective, this phone looks quite impressive. The added power definitely helps in improving the gaming experience. The Hummingbird chipset, which ran at 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, really looks strong and the 512MB of RAM gives it an additional boost to perform well. The big screen too adds to the pleasure of playing with crystal clear display. The 1.4 GHz processor makes playing easy & smooth with no lag time.
Overall Rating
The Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 possesses one of the best displays found among all the Smartphone. The phone has a powerful portable multimedia player. The camera though takes some time to focus on subjects while recording videos. HD videos, when recorded, had acceptable details with just good noise levels under bright light. Low light video clips did not come out well, mainly due to absence of flash light which makes the camera more suited for outdoors shooting.
Pros and Cons
Buyers who are entering into the Samsung world for the first time, for them, the Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 would be a great buy, as it is the fastest single core Android phone. For those who already have a Galaxy S, it doesn’t make sense to upgrade to Galaxy S Plus. The image quality is just average even with a 5MP camera phone standard and it cannot replace your digital camera. The Phone has the pinch to zoom function, but it is not as smooth as that of an iPhone. Though we appreciate the light weight, we are not a big fan of the Galaxy S’s plastic parts.
It can play various formats like MKV files, DivX and XviD videos apart from the standard MP4 and H.264 files. Video playback on its 4-inch Super AMOLED screen is great. The screen has great saturation and nice frame rates. The phones do not stutter when rolled our 720p HD videos.
The audio quality is impressive with rich bass and highs, which plays formats like MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC. The audio player sounds better with Virtual Surround sound which adds more colors to the music. There is FM radio, where six stations can be set as favorites. The Galaxy S i9001 has a built-in accelerometer, a digital compass and a GPS receiver.
